"It has been 35 years since I began practicing Psychiatry. For the past 28 years my practice has also included Psychoanalysis. Psychoanalytic thinking considers one's development, dreams, and unconscious life. It deepens the evaluation and psychotherapy whether sessions are once a week or four times a week. Therapy is a joint undertaking for both a patient and therapist. It is an adventure and challenge. The therapist and patient are affected and changed by the process. It allows for a deeper emotional understanding and appreciation for who one is; how much more one can become. It can be a profound time in one's life. Psychotropic medications (which I am comfortable prescribing) can be an important component of treatment. They can be used in ways that do not disrupt the goals of psychotherapy and at the same time advance the treatment process.

My professional work has been in mental health centers, psychiatric and medical hospitals, and for many years in a private outpatient practice. All of these experiences have contributed to my understanding of psychological stressors and many helpful interventions."
